Papers relating to Gelli'r Ynn, Beddgelert, Caernarfonshire, 1831-1980, comprising deeds, 1884-1980; documents realting to Nantmor Copper Co. Ltd and Snowdon Mountain Railway Co., 1923-1951; letters, 1911-1952; receipts, bills, etc., 1893-1933; sales catalogues, 1920-1921, 1928; maps and plans, 1896-19[21]; memorial cards, death and birth certificates, etc., 1882-1950; newspaper cuttings, 1902-1967; miscellaneous papers , 1864-1970; printed books, 1831-1889; and photographs [20th century].

Administrative / Biographical History

The house of Gelli'r Ynn is in Nantmor, a hamlet in Beddgelert, Merionethshire. Copper and titanium are mined in the district. Cadwaladr Owen of Gelli'rynn (d. 1884) was married to Catherine; they had 2 daughters, Anne and Sarah. Anne (d. 1950) was married to Rees Jones (d. 1903), of Arthur Temperance, Beddgelert, a gatekeeper and grocer. Sarah (d. 1949) married James William Pallant of Gellirynnisaf, a carrier and coal merchant, in 1900. In 1923, Snowdon Mountain Tramroad and Hotel Co. Ltd. purchased lands in Cwm Bychan and Gelli'r Ynn farms from Owen Cadwaladr Owen. In 1926 a land tenancy adjoining the Welsh Highland Railway at Nantmor was agreed between the Snowdon Mountain Tramroad and Hotel Co. Ltd., London and the Nantmor Copper Co. Ltd. In January 1930, Owen C. Owen became the new owner of the Snowdon Tramroad Co. In 1932-1933, there was a court case between Nantmor Copper Co. Ltd and Owen Cadwaladr Owen. In 1950, the esate of Anne Jones was administered by her niece, Anne Pallant of Glascoed (d. 1980). Mrs Ellen Gellrina Jones acted as executrix for Annie Pallant, her cousin; she was the daughter of Owen Cadwaladr Owen.
