Administrative / Biographical History

The White Swan, Monmouth, Monmouthshire, dates back as far as the early 18th century and may at one time have been a private dwelling house. In the mid 18th century the inn was known as the Swan and Falcon Inn but by 1774 had become the White Swan. The inn was rebuilt in 1839 following the completion of Priory Street. The Wanklyn and Powles families of Monmouth owned property in Penallt, Trellech, Monmouthshire.
