Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The National Asylum Workers' Union was founded in July 1910 with the first meeting held at Whitefield near Manchester. It was renamed the Mental Hospital and Institutional Workers' Union in 1935. In 1946 the union merged with the Hospitals and Welfare Services Union to form the Confederation of Health Service Employees.
