William Joseph Mason (1895-1985) of Birmingham took part in the official procession, as a drummer in the Birmingham Battalion of the Boys Brigade, which escorted King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra from the Council House to Birmingham University to officially open the new buildings at Edgbaston.
