Administrative / Biographical History
Cecil Ramsden Langworthy Parry was born on 3 September 1901. He attended the Royal Naval Colleges at Osborne and Dartmouth before joining HMS Tiger as midshipman in 1917. Promoted commander in 1935 and captain in 1941, he served as naval attach and liaison officer with the United States Pacific Fleet between 1941 and 1942. He was awarded the DSO for his services as captain of the 21st Destroyer Flotilla, advancing to rear admiral in 1951 and receiving the CB in 1952. Retiring from the Navy in 1953, Parry was appointed secretary to the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition, 1955-1958 (leader Vivian Fuchs), the first expedition to cross Antarctica. After the expedition, he served as secretary to the British national appeal for the World Wildlife Fund between 1961 and 1964. He died on 31 March 1977.
