Papers include lectures, essays, sermons and reviews by Howard Root throughout his career as well as collections of works by other various authors and theologians. Much of the correspondence, press clippings, pamphlets, and photographs within the Root papers concern relations between the Anglican and Roman Catholic churches. As such, large sections of the papers revolve around the Anglican Centre in Rome, various Popes, and several Archbishops of Canterbury. Also material on various issues within the church, such as the ordination of women and Christian unity.
