Administrative / Biographical History
Brown was admitted to St John's College, Cambridge, in 1886, and graduated BA, in mathematics, in 1889. In the same year he was appointed sub-inspector of schools to the Education Department of the Privy Council. In 1903 he was appointed secretary for elementary education, West Riding. He retired in 1927 but continued to work in education as a school governor and as vice-chairman of the L.C.C. Advisory Committee on Education. He also served as honorary treasurer of the National Library for the Blind.
