Scope and Content

Lease by Revd Christopher Ansty of Norton, Durham, clerk, to Capt Henry Humphreys, HM 48th Regiment of Foot, of his farm house and 395 acres in Trumpington (reserving timber and quarrying rights) for twelve years at an annual rent of #790. The rent is to be increased by #20 for every acre of meadow or pasture land converted to arable, and Humphreys undertakes to operate a four-year crop rotation system, and to insure the house against fire for #1,500. Various restrictions on farming methods are to apply. 4 pages, counterpart of a lease, unsigned, and apparently never executed, duty stamps.
