Alfred Marshall 1842 - 1924

Marshall was educated at Merchant Taylors' School and St John's College, Oxford. He was a Fellow of St John's College Cambridge, 1865 - 1877 and 1885 - 1908. From 1877 to 1882 he was Principal of University College, Bristol, 1877 - 1882. He then went on to become a lecturer at and Fellow of Balliol College, Oxford, 1883 - 1884. Marshall was Professor of Political Economy, Cambridge University, 1885 - 1908, and became Emeritus Professor, 1918. He was a member of Royal Commissions on Labour (1891), Aged Poor (1893) and Local Taxation (1899). He also served on the Indian Currency Committee (1899).
