Scope and Content

Alexander Loveday's collection is a mixture of personal and professional material, ranging from family photographs and correspondence to diaries and documents covering his time at the League of Nations and Warden at Nuffield College.

Administrative / Biographical History

Alexander Loveday was born on 24 September 1888 and died on 19 January 1962. Loveday attended Peterhouse College, Cambridge and became a lecturer in economics between 1913 and 1915. During WW1 he was part of the War Office and became the League of Nations secretariat in 1919. After holding various high level positions in the Economic, Financial and Transport departments between 1939 and 1946, Loveday became a fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford and was elected Warden between 1950 and 1954. The Loveday papers were deposited in Nuffield College Library by Alexander Loveday's son, Tom Loveday, in 1972.
