Administrative / Biographical History

Frederick John Haines Mackereth was born on 22 September 1921. He gained an honours degree in Chemistry at Manchester, with zoology to intermediate standard and physiology and bacteriology as subsidary subjects. Activities included working on titanium estimation in liver oils on a whaling ship. He started work at the Freshwater Biological Association as a Principal Scientific Officer on 1st September 1946. He undertook work on lakes including chemical and physical work on lake sediment cores, and chemical dynamics of lakes

Mackereth died in 1972
