This material is held atNational Portrait Gallery Archive

Scope and Content

The photographs in this series relate to almost all areas of Gallery work. They date from 1880 to the present and concern, in particular, the display of the Collection; building work and refurbishments; events, regional partnerships, education and commercial activities. They do not concern exhibitions - such images have been catalogued alongside the relevant Exhibition case files, see NPG32.

Portraits in the Gallery's Collections are visibile in many of the photographs. Where this is the case, these portraits have been referenced in the catalogue.

Administrative / Biographical History

Images were taken both by Gallery staff and by professional photographers employed on a freelance basis.
