Transcribed by Thomas Martin of Palgrave, Suffolk, from an manuscript then in the possession of James West, and now BL Lansdowne 794, completed 23 Feb. 1738 (fo. 82). Inside front cover: 'R. Farmer' (c. 1790), and a note in his hand, 'Tho. Martin' (1738), 'Thos. Phillipps Middle Hill' (c. 1836). fo. i: (in Martin's hand) 'The original of this Book was bought at the Auction of Mr Le Neve's Library, by James West of the Inner Temple Esqre for 15 shillings', and further notes on the original MS. On sheet attached to inside back cover: 'Mr Ritson returns Mr Heber's MS with many thanks. He has taken the liberty to transcribe a passage of about a dozen lines in which Robyn Whode is mentioned. Tuesday, 19th June [1798].' fo. 84v: 'T F F 1894'.

Purchased by Sir Thomas Phillipps from Thorpe, 1836, no. 1173, and subsequently Phillipps MS 9261. Purchased at Sotheby's Phillipps sale, 26 Mar. 1895, lot 1041.
