This manuscript volume, written out in a single hand, perhaps by Ludovicus Barrerius, is dated 1602.
The volume is bound in leather. Embossed on the front cover is the word 'Lvdovicvs' and on the back, 'Barrerivs'. On the first inside page the same name is written out, followed by the words 'Contentorum In hoc Opere olim Dei Gratia Auditor [some time since, thanks be to God, a pupil or reader of the controversies in this work] 1602'.
It contains two works by Jesuit authors, as follows:
'Praeceptorum Rhetoricorum Libri Qunque' [On the Principles of Rhetoric, in five books], by the Reverend Father Jacobus Georgius of the Society of Jesus [the Jesuits], 1602 (210 pp);
and
'In Scientias Mathematicae Annotata quadans' [On the Science of Mathematics, somewhat annotated], by Doctor and Reverend Father Lamartius of the Society of Jesus, 1 November 1603 (258 pp). It covers subjects such as geometry, astronomy and horology [timekeeping]. This item is illustrated with a coloured coat of arms and horological diagrams, and was presumably added to the volume after the first work.
