Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
In the 1880s , a business was established to exploit William Baird's patents for lattice girders. Its Temple Iron Works were at Anniesland, Glasgow, and by 1910 the partners in this venture were William Mirrlees Baird and William Connal Warrand. The firm, known as William Baird & Son , gradually expanded into all kinds of structural iron and steel work, but specialised in the construction of bridges. In 1925 the business was incorporated as a limited company, William Baird & Son Ltd , and in 1981 it was liquidated.
