The Lloyd George Museum, Llanystumdwy, Caernarfonshire, displays a collection of items relating to David Lloyd George. The museum, which opened in 1960, includes Lloyd George's former home at Highgate, where he lived between 1864-1880. David Lloyd George (1863-1945), 1st Earl Lloyd-George, was born in Manchester, England, in 1863. Following his father's death, his mother moved with the children to Llanystumdwy, to live with her brother, Richard Lloyd (1834-1917). Lloyd George became a solicitor in Criccieth, Caernarfonshire, involved in the Llanfrothen Burial case concerning Nonconformist burial rights, and in 1890, he became Liberal MP for Caernarfon Boroughs. In 1916, he became Prime Minister, a post he held until 1922. David Lloyd George was a reformer and an architect of social welfare programmes. He remained a member of the House of Commons until 1945, and was ennobled as Earl Lloyd-George of Dwyfor shortly before his death.
