North Georgia Gazette collection

The collection comprises of the original handwritten editions of the newspaper.

The North Georgia Gazette or Winter Chronicle, later published as The North Georgia Gazette and Winter Chronicle, was edited by the astronomer Edward Sabine on board HMS Hecla during the British Naval Northwest Passage Expedition, 1819-1820 (leader William Edward Parry), which was wintering at Winter Harbour, Melville Island in the Canadian Arctic. Ten of the nineteen officers on the expedition accounted for all of the one hundred and thirty contributions to the twenty-one numbers of the newspaper, which was launched in November 1819 and concluded in March 1820. John Murray publishers subsequently published it on the expeditions return in 1822.
