Edward Gordon Bulstrode, better known as Brother Edward, began his ministry in 1909 as curate at St. Columba's, Stratford. Following a stay with the Society of St. John the Evangelist at Cowley, Oxon., he embarked upon a career of travelling evangelism which spanned nearly 40 years and culminated in the work of the Village Evangelists.

Custodial History

The Rev. Kenneth Packard brought together many papers of Brother Edward when writing the biography Brother Edward: Priest and Evangelist (1955), and further papers were added by Mrs. Joanna Kelley. The resulting collection comprises not only Brother Edward's personal papers and material relating to movements with which he was connected, but also some working papers of Mr. Packard and Mrs. Kelley.
