Release of equity of redemption, Cambridge

In consideration of #30, Robert Wakefield of Cambridge, carpenter, mortgaged (in the form of a 1,000 year lease at peppercorn rent) on 30 Apr 1754 his small freehold cottage tenement in Walls Lane, Holy Trinity parish, Cambridge, then in the occupation of Thomas Dilliston, cordwainer, to Eleanor West of Cambridge, widow. Both parties have now died, and their respective heirs are Frances Towell (wife of Edward Towell of Smithfield, yeoman, and daughter of Wakefield), and John Chambers of Cambridge, tea-dealer. Since the interest payments have not been maintained, Chambers has taken possession of the tenement 'some years since', and as the Towells now owe him #50 - more than the value of the estate - they hereby release all their remaining title and equity of redemption to Chambers during the term of the lease. Release of equity of redemption, signed and sealed by Edward and Frances Towell (her mark), witnessed by Thomas and J Wherlings, duty stamp. Form of indenture supplied by Thomas Druce, stationer, of Holborn.
