Scope and Content

John Curtis of Montagu St, Portman Square, gent (1st party), at the request and by direction of Capt John Thompson RN of Connaught Square, and Maria his wife (2nd parties), and Rosalinda Foss of Calais, widow (3rd party), for whom he has been acting as trustee, and on the nomination of William Nix of Somersham, farmer (4th party), Henry Francis of Norwich, gent, Henry Manning of St Ives, surgeon, and Robert Whetham Allpress of St Ives, gent (5th parties), assigns to Robert John Turner of Norwich, gent (6th party), the remainder of a 1,000 year lease created in 1768 by way of mortgage on a house and c40 acres of fen ground in Hale Fen, Witcham, Cambridgeshire (part of Bedford Level Lot 13 No 3), in trust, firstly to Francis, Manning, and Allpress for securing repayment of #2,000 and interest owing them by Nix, and secondly to Nix who has recently purchased the property from the Thompsons and Foss. Six-part indenture, signed and sealed by all parties except Francis and Turner, witnessed by Donald Tulloch, of 46 Marlbrough St, London, coal merchant, Edmund Alexander Wilson and John Somers, clerks to Messrs Wilson and Curtis of 12 Montagu St, Portman Square, and John Lawrence of St Ives, solicitor, duty stamps. Endorsed: 'Allpress & Lawrence / 5 March 1829 / ?XII'.
