Cil-yr-Ychen Lime Works

Comprised of: a Day book: Fortnightly account book of Cilyrychen Lime Works; Letters: Testing Works and Chemical Laboratories, 2 Broadway, Westminster, London to The Llandebie Lime Works Ltd.; & Day book: Lime Firms Ltd.

Cil-yr-ychen quarry was founded by R.K. Penson, [c. 1855] on the basis of a 60 years lease with mineral rights of Dinas, part of the Cil-yr-ychen farm on the Dynefor estate, mainly with the aim of selling stone and lime to the Central Wales Railway. After Penson's death the firm was continued by his widow in partnership with F G Southern. The firm merged with the neighbouring firm at Pentregwenlais in 1906 and was known as Lime Firms Ltd. The burning of lime continued at this site until 1973.
