Manuscript treatise on grammar headed "Grammar is the art of speaking", using Latin and English examples (ff.3r-37r); preceded by poems "To Mr. L. Maidwell on his new method" (f.1r-v), signed "J. Drydon" (apparently John Dryden) and "To Mr. L. Maidwell on his new grammar" (f.2r-v), signed "N. Tate" (i.e. Nahum Tate).

Administrative / Biographical History

The compiler of the manuscript is unknown. Lewis Maidwell (1650-1715) was a minor writer, grammarian, and promoter of education.
