Scouting in Carmarthenshire

Records of the Carmarthenshire Scouts.

Scouting grew out of the ideas of General Robet Baden-Powell. In August 1907, he held a successful experimental camp for boys on Brownsea Island near Poole, and in 1908 published a book "Scouting for Boys part 1" and a boys' magazine "The Scout". Boys throughout the country flocked to form Scout Troops and the first documented in Carmarthenshire was the 1st Carmarthen Troop on 29th April 1908. Carmarthen. In 1910, a Committee called Carmarthenshire County Scout Council was set up to regulate Scouting units in Carmarthenshire. After 2 name changes it is now known as Carmarthenshire Scouts, and is headed by an Area Commissioner.
