Scope and Content

Reginald Arsic confirms his gift to the Knights Hospitallers in England at Chipeham [Chippenham, Cambridgeshire], of a messuage in Assele [Ashley, Cambridgeshire], formerly of William, rector of the church of Selverle [Silverley, Cambridgeshire], lying between messuages of William son of Ranulph and of Stephen de Depedene. He gives in addition pasture for sixty sheep, both in common and in his private pasture at Ashley and Silverley. Witnessed by Robert de Gines, John de Gines, Nicholas ?Merueylus, Wymar de Sneylwelle, Richard Bracheth, Robert Balistarius, Nicholas de Chipenham, clerk, and others. Tag and seal wanting. With late thirteenth-century endorsement of identification. Small strip attached bottom-centre noting that Geoffrey Arsyk, son and heir of Reginald, is bound to warrant 'us' [the Hospitallers] the messuage spoken of.
