Research notes by M.W. Spick and G.J. Parkes on the history of houses in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, 1972-1976

The collection contains copies of hand written, unpublished articles on the subject of houses in Arnold, Nottinghamshire. The first item relates to 83-93, Nottingham Road, Arnold, Nottinghamshire, a group of artisans' dwellings from the mid-nineteenth century. It was compiled in March 1972 by M.W. Spick and G.J. Parkes. The article has a short introduction, which includes some biographical evidence about M.W.Spick, who lived at 83 Nottingham Road. The bulk of the work consists of annotated sketches of plans, elevations and views of the houses. The second item relates to Moira House, Front Street, Arnold and was compiled in 1976 by M.W. Spick, G. Parkes and Mr B. Worville, just before the house was demolished to make way for a supermarket. The article contains plans, original photographic prints and typescript historical notes.

Maurice William Spick, who lived in Arnold, published a number of books on the subject of Arnold and Bestwood, Nottinghamshire. Mr G. Parkes was also, apparently, a local resident in Daybrook, Arnold in the 1970s, with an interest in local history.

No archival arrangement has been necessary.
