Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
County & District Holdings Ltd was incorporated as a limited liability company in 1935 with its registered offices in Park Lane, London, England. The company had a share capital of £75,010 and its first directors were Gerald Glover and George Mayer, solicitors; Archibald Dodds, architect; George Wilson, a company director, and Sir Malcolm McAlpine, civil engineer. Malcolm held £1250 worth of shares in the company. In 1936, the company took out a mortgage agreement with the Gas Light & Coke Co Ltd , London, for the Fountain House property. The mortgagees were Sir Robert McAlpine & Sons (London) Ltd , civil engineering contractors, of which Sir Malcolm McAlpine was a director. In 1941, Robert Edwin McAlpine, Sir Malcolm's nephew, became a director of the County & District Holdings Ltd . By 1942, Malcolm and Robert had purchased the majority of the company's shares between them. The company appears to have been dissolved at some time after 1952 .
