Scope and Content

This collection is made up of three accessions MS 338, MS 1747 and MS 1957. It comprises: a translation of, and notes on, Homer's Iliad, Book XIII by Forsyth, an annotated copy of an edition of William Shakespeare's play 'The Merchant of Venice', Forsyth's scrapbooks and some family papers.

Administrative / Biographical History

David Forsyth (1844-1934), a pioneering educationist, was a successful headmaster of the Leeds Central High School (1889-1918), and received an honorary degree from the University of Leeds in 1915 for his extensive contribution to improving education in higher grade schools.
