TOWN TRAIL: Beaumaris, prepared by the Anglesey Antiquarian Society and Field Club.

Administrative / Biographical History

It was in November 1911 That the Anglesey Antiquarian Society held its first meeting with President The Right Honourable Lord Boston going on to serve for 28 years. Edward Neil Baynes a field archaeologist became the Honorary General Secretary. Hugh Owen of Newborough was also a founder member who would contribute some 46 papers to the Society's transactions between 1920 and 1952. Others include Edward Greenly; Henry Rees Davies; Harold Hughes; John Edwards Griffith; Sir Ifor Williams; Lady Nesta Evans; Lucy Williams and Thomas Prichard the first Chairman. The Society celebrated a Centenary in 2011 and holds regular meetings and field trips.
