Scope and Content

The Crafts Study Centre has listed together in this collection small offerings of letters, photographs and publications relating to Ida Henstock (1896-1982) and her work, collected or produced by admirers.

Administrative / Biographical History

Ida Doris Henstock was born in Sheffield in 1896. She was an illuminator, and did a lot of work for Graily Hewitt, including working with him on the House of Lords First World War Memorial Book. The book had a coat of arms on every page (writing by Hewitt, illumination by Henstock), and each family received a copy of its page.
The equivalent volume for the Second World War was all Henstock's work, and she produced the Lancashire Fusiliers Memorial Book and, with Alfred Fairbank, the Clement Danes RAF Memorial Book.
