Comprises: (1) Many damaged folders of research and bibliographical autograph manuscript notes on French history, literature, and literature written partly in French and partly in English; (2) Some letters written to Clapton; (3) Some offprints of articles and reviews written by his colleagues at Leeds chiefly on French studies; (4) Examination papers set by various universities and school examination boards, together with some examination scripts and envelopes; (5) A few booksellers' catalogues; (6) Some notes for lectures prepared by Clapton; (7) Some French departmental administrative papers; (8) A cheque book and a number of cheques; (9) An early collection of poems composed by Clapton in English written in a notebook dated 1919; (10) A small diary of "A journey to France", dated September '95, i.e. 1895, clearly not by Clapton.
