Administrative / Biographical History

The donor's father, Ellis Rhodes, the son of a mining engineer, was born at New Mill, near Huddersfield, in 1872. He farmed at Shelley Wood House until 1904 when he took possession of Healey Farm. Three years later, when Healey Farm was relinquished, he was killed while working as the Deputy Manager of a local colliery. The donor after extra-mural study at Leeds University, became an instructor at the Sussex Institute of Agriculture and subsequently joined the National Agricultural Advisory Service.
