Scope and Content

This collection contains notes, transcripts, maps, correspondence, and indices relating to W. Lloyd Davies' research and published articles. It includes research material relating to his article on enclosure of land at Henllan, Denbighshire, The Henllan Enclosure Award, published in 1938. Also includes material relating to Inclosure Acts, enclosures in Wales and specifically in the Lordship of Chirk in Denbighshire and the parishes of Llangollen and Llansanffraid Glynceiriog, in 1839 mainly.

Also contains research material for his article Notes on Hugh Williams and the Rebecca Riots, which includes notebooks containing transcripts of Home Office papers, made by W. Lloyd Davies for this article published in 1944.

Administrative / Biographical History

W. Lloyd Davies, B.A., O.B.E., of Harrow, Middlesex and later Bournemouth, Dorset, was a weekly contributor to Dinesydd Cymreig, a north Wales Labour Party newspaper, published at Caernarfon, from 1912 until 1929. He was also a contributor of articles on Welsh history to the Bulletin of the Board of Celtic Studies. His contributions to this journal include The Henllan Enclosure Award, which appeared in Volume IX, part II, November 1938 and Notes on Hugh Williams and the Rebecca Riots which was published in Volume XI, parts III and IV, in November 1944.
