Scope and Content

Two holograph letters from R[obert] Raikes, Gloucester, to 'Madam' [Harris], 1787 (exhaustive comments on the organisation and growth of the Sunday School or the writer's 'little Project for Civilizing the Rising Generation of the Poor'), and Miss Miller, 1793 (the engagement of Elizabeth Roberts at a salary of £18 a year); Copy of a letter from Mr. Robert Raikes, of Gloucester, to the Committee of the Society established in London, for the Support and Encouragement of Sunday-Schools in the different Counties of England, 7 October, 1786; an invoice and two receipts from R. Raikes to Wm. Rogers for the publication of advertisments [in the Gloucester Journal]; an engraved portrait of R. Raikes, 1830; and a holograph letter from [the Reverend] Richd. Raikes, Gloucester, to Mr. Yarnold, Messrs. Raikes, 79 London Wall, London, 1819 (business matters).
