A photocopy of a letter written to Mr James Mills of Newtown, dated 1 January 1861, appointing him to the 'Mastership' of Ponterwyd British School, from the Rev. John Phillips, Moderator of the Calvinistic Methodist Church of Wales and founder of Bangor Normal College.

John Phillips (1810-1867), born at Pontrhydfendigaid, Cardiganshire, was a Calvinistic Methodist minister and the first Principal of the Bangor Normal College.
