Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Caribbean Council for Europe was founded, originally as an autonomous body within the West India Committee. It was set up to represent the interests of a wide range of private sector associations and companies in the Caribbean as well as sectoral associations such as tourism, rum, rice and other areas. Its functions included advocacy in Brussels and European capitals on behalf of these and other interests, and the provision of information to its member associations and member companies on developments in Europe relevant to their interests.
Access Information
Access to the papers which have been donated by the Caribbean Council will be on application only, and on approval by the current Managing Director of the Caribbean Council, for a period of five years following the transfer (ie until 2021 inclusive). Access to some files might be restricted by Freedom of Information legislation. Cuba initiative: files CLOSED until 2021 (inclusive). Researchers need written permission from the Managing Director, Caribbean Council, until 2026 (inclusive). Please contact chris.bennett@caribbean-council.org.
