Scope and Content

This collection relates to material that was not catalogued as part of The Oxford Playhouse collection, for this catalogue please see O24. This material relates to a variety of other organisations and events that used the Playhouse in different ways.

O28/1 relates to the Resident Companies of the Playhouse, which has included the Meadow Players and Anvil Productions. Most of the records concern tour productions away from the Playhouse, but there are some general administrative papers concerning the running of the Company.

O28/2 concerns the Oxford University Dramatic Society. As a result of becoming the University Theatre the Playhouse has collected a range of material relating to the history of the OUDS and publicity material relating to performances outside the Playhouse. OUDS material relating to performances at the Playhouse has been catalogued as O24.

O28/3 concerns productions files for The Oxford Festival Of Music which was launched as part of the 1978 Oxford Festival, and aimed to produce a wide range of musical theatre in Oxford.

O28/4 concerns the Oxford Festival, an event that the Playhouse was involved with alongside many other artistic venues in Oxford. The first Festival was held in 1974 and it continued until 1980. The records include minutes, planning papers and publicity leaflets.

O28/5 concerns the Observer Oxford Festival Of Theatre. The started out as the Oxford Festival Of University Theatre, and was a separate event to the Oxford Festival. Records include minutes, planning papers and posters.

The records were deposited at Oxfordshire Record Office as accession 3632 in March 1993, Acc 4013 in September 1995, Acc 4077 in April 1996 and part of Acc 6325 in September 2014. Catalogued by Alison Smith, November 2008 with additions in October 2014.
