Administrative / Biographical History
Penybryn, Edern, Caernarfonshire, was owned by the Humphreys family in the 18th century. Maurice Humphreys (d. [1766]) bequeathed Penybryn to his son, Thomas Humphreys (d. 1782). He left Penybryn to his maid, Mary Williams (d. [1825]). She married John Jones (fl. 1787-1806), son of Methusalem Jones of Amlwch, Anglesey. John's brother, Hugh Jones (fl. 1785-1794), was taken prisoner during the Anglo-American War of the 1770s and subsequently settled in Georgia, USA. Mary Jones left Penybryn to her nephew Evan Roberts.
