The song cycle, in 18 pages, is entitled 'Nottingham Spleen: Song Cycle for Tenor and Piano'. The music score is by Joanne Forman, who uses four poems from the collection of D.H. Lawrence's anthology 'Pansies' (London, 1929) as her inspiration. Their titles are: 'Stand up!'; 'Things men have made'; 'The mosquito knows'; and 'Start a revolution'. 1998 (MS 318).

Joanne Forman is a playwright, puppeteer and composer who has lived near Taos, New Mexico since about 1968. A pianist, she has been writing music since the age of 16. Some of her compositions have been performed by the Taos Chamber Music Group and have been broadcast on television. She also contributes reviews of cultural events to the local press.
