Catalogue for the Thomas Telford Bicentenary Exhibition held by the Institution of Civil Engineers in 1957. The exhibition included a large painting by Leonard Rosoman, depicting several of Telford's works. The painting was purchased by the University of Nottingham in 1958 and is displayed in the entrance to the Pope and Coates buildings (MS 1006/13);

Administrative / Biographical History

Rex Coates (1920-2004) was Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Nottingham from 1958 to 1982, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor from 1966 to 1969. He was President of the Institution of Civil Engineers from 1978 to 1979.
