Administrative / Biographical History

Set up as a result of the NHS (Scotland) Act of 1947 under the control of the South Eastern Regional Hospital Board and operated until the reorganisation of the NHS in 1974. The following were included: City Hospital; Loanhead Hospital; Royal Victoria Hospital; Southfield Hospital and Royal Victoria Dispensary for Diseases of the Chest. From 1974-1984, the Royal Victoria was part of the North Lothian District of Lothian Health Board. The other hospitals were part of the South Lothian District of Lothian Health Board.
