Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
John R. Jones, also known by his bardic name, Ogwenydd was born in 1860, the son of Richard and Ann Jones of Bethesda, Caernarfonshire. He had five brothers and worked at Penrhyn Quarry. At the age of 16, he and his family moved to live in Blaenau Ffestiniog, Merioneth.
His manuscripts reveal that he later moved from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Tregarth near Bangor and that he was a keen Eisteddfod competitor and contributor to newspapers.
