One of the chapel photographs, item number: 32694, also features Tomos Roberts, former archivist at the University of Wales, Bangor and Edmond Douglas Pennant of the Penrhyn estate.

Administrative / Biographical History

Douglas Madge was university photographer at the University of Wales, Bangor until ca. 1990.

The medieval chapel at Penrhyn in Llandygai, and Cochwillan in Llanllechid were part of the Penrhyn estate, owned by the Douglas Pennant family, outside Bangor. A house may have stood at Cochwillan in the 13th century but the present building is not earlier than 1450, when it was part of the Gruffydd estate.
