Administrative / Biographical History
The Association of Education Committees was the chief organisation for local education authorities from the time of the 1944 Education Act until its dissolution in 1977. The Executive committee comprised the Chief Education Officers and the chairmen of local authority Education Committees. Sir William (later Lord) Alexander served as General Secretary to the Committee for more than 30 years
