Scope and Content

The collection comprises of correspondence by Julie to Alexander Hepburne Macklin who served as surgeon onboard the Quest during the Shackleton-Rowett Antarctic Expedition, 1921-1922 (leader Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton).

Administrative / Biographical History

Julie Rowett was the wife of John Quiller Rowett the friend of Ernest Henry Shackleton who provided financial support for the Shackleton-Rowett Antarctic Expedition, 1921-1922 (leader Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton) to the Southern Ocean. Mrs. Rowett proof-read Frank Wild's account of the expedition, Shackleton's last voyage, published in 1923.
