Records of the Lawrenny estate

Rentals and accounts of the Lawrenny, Nash, Rhosmarket and other estates belonging to the Lort-Phillips family, 1851-1911; correspondence of A. J. Cromar, estate agent, 1902-1912; and plans of Lawrenny Castle by Henry Ashton, architect, 1851-1898.

George Lort-Phillips (1811-1866), M.P. for Pembrokeshire 1860-1866, succeeded to the Lawrenny, Rhosmarket and Nash estates, Pembrokeshire, as remainder-man under the will of Hugh Owen Barlow, M.P. for Pembroke Borough, who died in 1809, upon the termination of the life interest of Sir William Owen Barlow, 8th and last Baronet in 1851. The Lort-Phillips family had originally resided at Ashdale (formerly Dumpledale), Burton, Pembrokeshire. Dumpledale was bought by George Lort-Phillips in the first half of the 19th century and renamed Ashdale in 1845-1850. George's brother was Arthur Lort-Phillips. On the death of George Lort-Phillips without issue, the estate passed to his nephew, John Frederick Lort Phillips, who succeeded to the estate while still a minor. John Frederick Lort-Phillips also died without issue and the estate passed to his great-nephew, Lt Col Patrick Herbert Lort-Phillips.

Arranged by deposit into two groups: Group One: rentals; other estate accounts; correspondence of A. J. Cromar, estate agent, and miscellaneous material (D/LAW); and Group Two: plans of Lawrenny Castle (D/LAW/2).

Some items in D/LAW/2 have been withdrawn by the depositor.
