Administrative / Biographical History

In 1877 James Hewitt, grandfather of the donor, became a tenant on Manor Farm, previously held by the Benyon family. He bred cart horses (he supplied them to Symonds, the brewers) and the donor's father, who farmed with him, bred hunters which he often sold at meets. Manor Farm was a mixed dairy farm, with wheat and beans
