Administrative / Biographical History

Papers of the Conference on European Inland Transport (CEIT) set up in 1944 to restore the transport system of Continental Europe after Liberation. The Chairman was Labour Party minister Baron Philip Noel Baker (1889 - 1982). Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Greece, Luxembourg, Poland, the Netherlands, Norway, USSR, UK, USA and Yugoslavia sent delegations. The papers mainly relate to the negotiations leading to the agreement to set up the European Central Inland Transport Organisation.
