Scope and Content

This collection includes: organising committee records; rules, transfers of engagements, etc.; records of executive council/committee, delegate conferences and various committees and working parties; subject files; membership lists; periodical and other publications; salary surveys.

Administrative / Biographical History

Formed in 1967 with members from the Engineers' Guild (formed in 1938), UKAPE registered as a trade union in May 1969. It worked closely with the Association of Supervisory and Executive Engineers but came into conflict with the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers/TASS in 1970. In February 1980 it transferred its engagements to the Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunication and Plumbing Union (EETPU) and became an autonomous section of the Electrical and Engineering Staff Association. In 1992 it became part of the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union (AEEU) on the merger the EETPU with the Amalgamated Engineering Union. In 2002 it became part of Amicus when that union was created by the merger of the AEEU and MSF.
