Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Janet Hadley worked for the Society for Anglo-Chinese Understanding (SACU) for around 18 months in 1976-1977, as its General Secretary. The aim of the Society was broadly to promote friendship with the People's Republic of China and provide education about China and aspects of life there.
In 1976, the Chinese People's Friendship Association invited the Society to send a delegation of its members to China, as guests of the Association. Committees and branches of the Society proposed members from among their ranks and the eventual delegation was chosen by the Society's executive committee. As a fairly newly appointed General Secretary, Janet Hadley was amongst those chosen to go.
After working for SACU, Janet Hadley became a journalist.
