Administrative / Biographical History

The Meillionydd Estate in Llyn, can be said to have been founded by Arthur Williams M.A., one of the younger sons of the Cochwillan Estate. It remained in the hands of his descendants until the sole heiress (heiress both to the Meillionydd lands and the Ystumcolwyn lands in Montgomeryshire) was married in 1765 to Robert Howel Vaughan, who ultimately succeeded to the Nannau-Hengwrt estate.

William Williams of Llandegai who surveyed the Meillionydd estate in the late 18th century, is the author of Observations on the Snowdon mountains (1802).
